Cubase Tips - Table of Contents

Introduction

Cubase is a very good, maybe the most popular (and best) HD/Midi Recording-program - but a license it is relatively expensive compared with Vision DSP, also it seems that Steinberg has serious difficulties to implement the iMac/G3/G4 based, floppyless authorization concept. Don«t try the very limited Cubasis-Version - it is just too limited. Cubaase is the first programm that can use the software synth«s as plug-ins (which probably even means that G3 based computers may have difficulties to deal with all these performance RAM and CPU power consuming applications).
Anyway: there some nice tricks to use the demo as a real program - check the tips and tricks for further information.

Saving data where you cannot save data

Even when just testing Cubase, you may want to save good ideas or single tracks. The program always says - no sorry, impossible, you can not save (but: where are the files???). But you will probably find some files on you hard disk called "tracks". You can not open these files as long as they have these names but you can rename them and open them in Cubase VST via the import Audio function (no kidding!) - which is a kind of time consuming work around to make this program run....

Using the Plugins of VST in other programs

The Demo of VST comes with some nice plugins that other programs like Vision lacks (Distortion, etc.) -much to my suprise it was possible to use the plugins from the Demo-Version of Cubase in the real version of DSP: you just to have to copy the plug-ins to the VST plugins-folder of vision. Be aware of a special detail: Some effects are just stereo for stereo input.

Printing Scores, saving them

A nice workaround concerning scores: You cannot save them but you can print them. Use the fax-printer to produce a gif or jpg file you can use for further publishing in the internet or storage on your hard disks. This is maybe useful for a number of programs, where you can not print.
An additional workaround concerning this problem: You may use screenshots or screenshot programs like " TARGET="Snapshot">Snapshot to "store" setups and files you are not able to save.
