iMac with Vision DSP

Introduction about Vision DSP 4.5

I am concerned about the Web-download...

Delay while recording?

Cubase VST plugins for free...

Introduction about Vision DSP

Opcode offer(ed) a 128 Track (audio/and or Midi) professional Recording Studio as a web download for only US-$-59 - without technical support CD etc. - and with a sophisticated authorisation system (a call and response).
These kind of programs like also Cubase VST from Steinberg are "complete" Studio-Enviroments simulated in your Computer.
If you have never worked with such a programme just a short glance on the features available:
  • record and mix tracks Audio/Midi
  • import Audiotracks / Samples etc.
  • add effects like delay, echos, chorus, pitch shift, Filters, distortion, Resonant filters - whatever you want (these are called plugins, as Vision is compatible to Cubase VST there is a huge number of special effects available on the market...)
  • graphic equalizers
  • record, edit and playback Midi-files
  • automatically mix-down to a stereo-file
  • fade in and out tracks
  • create scores (but from Midifiles only)
  • pitch shift, time stretch
  • automize your mix (e.g. fade in and outs, effects)

As all the professional HD-recording/Midi Sequenzers this is not an programme you can access all feature with just an glance on the screens - even if you may have tried some other Sequenzers already. Also there are number of shortcuts that help you to work fluently but are also source for some frustration at the beginning because screens may show up or disappear without reasons.
You will probably not be able to simply produce your music within hours without studying the manuals a little bit. Download them, follow the steps very slowly and carefully, be patient, you will save lots of time. Vision has a huge number to link input-outputs on your computer which means that you have to carefully set up these possibilities, to record or hear something.
Nethertheless: A good way to start quickly (or to play around with the demo version) is to simply import some samples or sounds, via Quicktime you can use a lot of differents files from HD and CD and you can try to work with these possibilities.

    Opcode ist not existing anymore...?

Well actually there is a very large community still maintaining the programm and Vision is nowadays freeware, available on Opcode downloads sources, you may also check other sites, if this is not working... like http://vision.agektmr.com/

    Delay when recording...?

Probably you will hear a short delay between your input and output. Nothing special: Harddisk Recording systems suffer from this more or less - you may have to us another monitoring system for direct recording of you voice or your guitar. Also you simply just use only one earphone, not both to monitor your input.
Recording Audio at home is a very special problem (and maybe the most complicated thing to do at home -), you may check the recording pages for this, there you will also find lots of links concerning the basics.

A simple Workaround concerning the delay is to use two headphones: Smaller walkman like earphones to get the sound from e.g. the recorded device (letīs say a effects processor) and the bigger headphones plugged into your computer: This really works - but careful concerning the cables...
